Andrei Platonov — The Organizing Pit and other works (6 books)

ANDREI PLATONOV (1899-1951) , the pen name of Andrei Platonovich Klimentov, was a Soviet Russian litt, screenwriter, and rhymer. Although Platonov was a Communist, much of his drudgery was suppressed or censored during his lifetime for its skeptical feeling toward collectivization and other Stalinist policies, as well as for its tentative, avant-garde etiquette. For Nadezhda Mandelstam and Joseph Brodsky, Platonov was the litt who most acutely registered the ecclesiastical traumatize of revolution.

THE BASIS PIT (1930), his most praiseworthy drudgery, is a joyless symbolic and semi-satiric novel that critiques the brutalities of Stalin's collectivization of Russian agriculture. A gang of workers is given the job of digging the basis of an extensive edifice, a sumptuous make sunny for the best time to come that, they are convinced, is at mete. But the harder the gang works, the deeper they dig, the more things go unethical, and it becomes sunny that what is being dug is not a basis but an extensive grim. Seeking to raise unspeakable realities, Platonov deforms and transforms intercourse in pages that repetition both with the alienating doublespeak of power and the get under way unsophisticatedness of orison.

Also included here are several collections of Platonov«s suddenly fiction from the whole of his pursuit. Among them are «The Amends,» about an officer»s abstruse homecoming at the end of Epoch War II, described by Penelope Fitzgerald as one of «three countless works of Russian hand-outs of the millennium»; «The River Potudan,» a going account of a troubled marriage; and «Soul,» a torturous novella about a adolescent man returns to his Asian birthplace to see his people needy not only of rations and house, but of reminiscence and speech.

Depicting a devastated epoch that is both alarming and honourable, Platonov is a widespread litt who is as cloistered and haunting as Kafka.
