Reviews ~~~~~~~ By Phil Freeman <a href=" http://www.allmusic.com/album/koan-mw0001938214« target=»_NEW« rel=»nofollow" http://www.allmusic.com/album/koan-mw0001938214</a Drummer Tyshawn Sorey is a very attractive junior sportsman. In only a few years, he's made a wealthy colliding on the East Glide area, playing with saxophonists Anthony Braxton, Steve Coleman, and Steve Lehman, trumpeters Wadada Leo Smith and Dave Douglas, pianist Vijay Iyer, and many others. As that bibliography of collaborators and employers should refer to, Sorey is a cerebral and introspective sportsman whose industry as often as not eschews unwritten go for a more fractured, impressionistic way to upbeat and the r of percussion in jazz. And when he's working as a bandleader, his industry sometimes has almost nothing to do with jazz, as this album proves. Koan is performed using guitar, bass, and drums, and the six pieces, three of which are more than ten minutes each, be located in a period somewhere between Banknote Frisell and Morton Feldman, with a few hints of brand-new recordings by Sod thrown in. The guitar and bass jangling out, individual notes and gently struck chords hanging in the air like coils of smoke as Sorey uses the drum kit as a third melodic desire, only on occasions attempting to oblige the other two players in one government or another. The music's past it twists and turns on occasion withdrawal European improv, but just as as often as not suggestion at apartment music. This is a very splendid album that seems to conspicuous up a little more each experience it's played. -- By Attain Distinction Corroto <a href=" http://www.allaboutjazz.com/koan-tyshawn-sorey — 482-music-assessment-by-attain distinction-corroto.php« target=»_NEW« rel=»nofollow" http://www.allaboutjazz.com/koan-tyshawn-sorey — 482-music-assessment-by-attain distinction-corroto.php</a By Kevin Le Gendre <a href=" http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/gmcg« target=»_NEW« rel=»nofollow" http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/reviews/gmcg</a By Attain Distinction Saleski <a href=" http://www.blogcritics.org/music-assessment-tyshawn-sorey-koan/« target=»_NEW« rel=»nofollow" http://www.blogcritics.org/music-assessment-tyshawn-sorey-koan/</a By Doug Simpson <a href=" http://www.audaud.com/2009/10/tyshawn-sorey-koan — 482-music/« target=»_NEW« rel=»nofollow" http://www.audaud.com/2009/10/tyshawn-sorey-koan — 482-music/</a By Ben Ratliff <a href=" http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/08/arts/music/08guitar.html« target=»_NEW« rel=»nofollow" http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/08/arts/music/08guitar.html</a Por Sergio Piccirilli (es) <a href=" http://elintruso.com/2010/01/05/tyshawn-sorey-koan/« target=»_NEW« rel=»nofollow" http://elintruso.com/2010/01/05/tyshawn-sorey-koan/</a
