The Who are an English lurch affiliate formed in 1964 by Roger Daltrey (lead actor vocals, guitar, harmonica), Pete Townshend (guitar, vocals, keyboards) and John Entwistle (bass, effrontery, vocals), and joined abruptly after by Keith Moon (drums, vocals). They became known for animated lively performances which often included written agreement breakdown. The Who have sold about 100 million records, and have charted 27 top forty singles in the Synergetic Principality and Synergetic States, as well as 17 top ten albums, with 18 Gold, 12 Platinum and 5 Multi-Platinum album awards in the Synergetic States alone.

The Who rose to celebrity in the UK with a series of top ten hit singles, boosted in as far as someone is concerned by privateer broadcast stations such as Broadcast Caroline, commencement in January 1965 with «I Can«t Explain». The albums My Era (1965), A Adept One (1966) and The Who Rep Out (1967) followed, with the first two reaching the UK top five. They first hit the US Top 40 in 1967 with «Happy Jack» and hit the top ten later that year with «I Can See for Miles». Their celebrity grew with worthy performances at the Monterey Pop, Woodstock and Isle of Wight music festivals. The 1969 emancipation of Tommy was the first in a series of top ten albums in the US, followed by Lively at Leeds (1970), Who»s Next (1971), Quadrophenia (1973), The Who by Numbers (1975), Who Are You (1978) and The Kids Are Alright (1979).

Keith Moon died at the age of 32 on 7th, September 1978, after which the affiliate released two studio albums, the UK and US top five Phiz Dances (1981) and the US top ten It«s Unsentimental (1982), with drummer Kenney Jones from The Inadequate Faces/The Faces, before disbanding in 1983. They re-formed at events such as Lively Aid and for reunion tours such as their 25th anniversary perambulation at The Splendid Assembly with boarder stars Billy Icon, Elton John and Shirley Bassey in 1989 and the Quadrophenia tours of 1996, 1997, and 2012. In 2000, the three surviving earliest members discussed recording an album of new palpable, but their plans were pro tem stalled by Entwistle»s termination at the age of 57 in 2002. Townshend and Daltrey perpetuate to knock off as The Who and in 2006 they released the studio album Unending Wire, which reached the top ten in the UK and US.

The Who were inducted into the Lurch and Spin Furl Assembly of Celebrity in 1990, their first year of eligibility; the splendour describes them as «Prime contenders, in the minds of many, for the title-deed of World's Greatest Lurch Affiliate.» PREVIOUSLY arsenal wrote in 1979 that «No other bundle has ever pushed lurch so far, or asked so much from it.» Rolling Stone arsenal wrote: «Along with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, The Who unabridged the god-fearing trinity of British lurch.» They received a Lifetime Completion Trophy from the British Phonographic Activity in 1988 and from the Grammy Basis in 2001, for artistic contributions of extraordinary artistic weightiness to the greensward of recording. In 2008 surviving members Townshend and Daltrey were honoured at the 31st Annual Kennedy Center Honors. That same year VH1 Lurch Honors paid testimonial to The Who where Jack Foul of Immovable D called them «the greatest affiliate of all previously.»

Few bands in the intelligence of lurch & spin furl were riddled with as many contradictions as the Who. All four members had wildly different personalities, as their notoriously fervid lively performances demonstrated. The bundle was a quick of operation, as the unmanageable Keith Moon strike down over his drum kit and Pete Townshend leaped into the air with his guitar, spinning his right surrender in exaggerated windmills. Caroller Roger Daltrey strutted across the make up with a thuggish scare, as bassist John Entwistle stood quiet, functioning as the eye of the cyclone. These variant personalities again clashed, but these frictions also resulted in a decade's usefulness of out of the ordinary music -- it took some five years to discover to be their audience, but at the bum end of the 1960s they speedily achieved a even of repute rivaling the Rolling Stones, both as a lively act and in album sales.

As one of the key figures of the British Blitzkrieg and the mod advance of the mid-«60s, the Who were a emphatic and undeniably strong sonic prise. They often sounded like they were exploding reactionary lurch and R&B structures with Townshend»s maddened guitar chords, Entwistle«s hyperactive basslines, and Moon»s lusty, falsely hectic drumming. Unequal To most lurch bands, the Who based their measure on Townshend's guitar, letting Moon and Entwistle make do wildly over his basis, while Daltrey belted out his vocals. This was the profitable the Who thrived on in concert, but on log they were a different proposition, as Townshend pushed the bundle toward new sonic area. He soon became regarded as one of the finest British songwriters of his era, rivaling John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the Beatles and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, as songs like «The Kids Are Alright» and «My Generation» became teenage anthems, and his lurch opera, Tommy, earned him attribute from mainstream music critics.

Townshend continually pushed the affiliate toward more overambitious area, incorporating snow-white cacophony, pop art, and conceptual extended mellifluous pieces into the group«s category. The remains of the Who, especially Entwistle and Daltrey, weren»t always zealous to be a fan him in his mellifluous explorations, especially after the celebrity of his first lurch opera, Tommy. Instead, they wanted to remain fixed to their unsentimental lurch roots, playing brutally extravagant, manly music instead of Townshend«s textured ditty suites and unprotected pop songs. In The End, this resulted in the bundle abandoning their daring energy in the mid-»70s, as they settled into their r as arena rockers. the Who continued on this circuit even after the termination of Moon in 1978, and even after they disbanded in the break of dawn «80s, as they reunited numerous times in the up to the minute »80s and «90s to perambulation America. The group»s intractable chivvy of the dollar was in the main due to Entwistle and Daltrey, who never bring about profitable unaccompanied careers, but it had the terrible side purport of tarnishing their noted for many longtime fans. However, there's little scrap that at their perfection the Who were one of the most innovative and strong bands in lurch intelligence.
