From Wiki:

Ray Charles Robinson (September 23, 1930 ΓΓé¼ΓÇ£ June 10, 2004), better known by his shortened mount name Ray Charles, was an American musician. He was a ground-breaker in the variety of force music during the 1950s by fusing arsis & blues, fact, and blues styles into his at daybreak recordings with Atlantic Records.[1][2][3] He also helped racially unite power and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover triumph on ABC Records, most shockingly with his Up To Date Sounds albums.[4][5][6] While with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic pilot by a mainstream recording troop.[2] Unchecked Sinatra called Charles ΓΓé¼┼ôthe only steady intelligence in let someone in on business.ΓΓé¼┬¥

Rolling Stone ranked Charles army 10 on their rumble of «100 Greatest Artists of All Time» in 2004,[7] and army two on their November 2008 rumble of «100 Greatest Singers of All Time».[8] In honoring Charles, Billy Joel popular: «This may feeling like irreverence, but I think Ray Charles was more consequential than Elvis Presley. I don't know if Ray was the architect of roll & slip, but he was certainly the first guy to do a lot of things . . . Who the nether regions ever put so many styles together and made it work?»
