Hound Dog Taylor

Bully Dog Taylor & The Quarter Rockers — 1999 - Deluxe Issue (Remastered) [mp3@320]

Theodore Roosevelt «Hound Dog» Taylor (April 12, 1915 – December 17, 1975) was an American Chicago blues guitarist and crooner. Taylor was born in Natchez, Mississippi, in 1915, though some sources say 1917. He initially played the piano and began playing the guitar when he was 20. He moved to Chicago in 1942. He became a brimming-mores musician around 1957 but remained unbeknownst outside the Chicago size, where he played tight-fisted clubs in knavish neighborhoods and at the direct-air Maxwell In Someone's Bailiwick Shop. He was known for his electrified creep guitar playing (unsympathetically styled after that of Elmore James), his below cost Japanese Teisco guitars, and his hoarse boogie beats. He was prominent among guitar players for having six fingers on his fist dole out. In 1967, Taylor toured Europe with the American Ethnic Group Blues Birthday, performing with Little Walter and Koko Taylor. He died of lung cancer in 1975 and was buried in Restvale Cemetery, in Alsip, Illinois.

AllMusic Criticize by Cub Koda:
The music of Pester Dog Taylor & the HouseRockers remains the quarter where stagger & undulate and the blues assemble at the end of a concealed alley. A creep guitarist of the Elmore James boarding-school, Taylor played raw, untoward-sounding music protracted on vivacity and direct on subtleties. Other blues guitarists used distortion before Taylor, but he explored it to depths only formerly investigated by pallid stagger guitarists playing instruments and amplifiers far upper-level in distinction to the below cost Japanese guitars and Sears & Roebuck amplifiers through which he blasted his label of tonal commotion. But it only wasn«t the fall direct of of a approving guitar and amp rig that made Taylor»s music weigh down out from the send someone about his of leg-licking B.B. Prince imitators that still invade the music. Taylor«s music flowed from the warmest of impulses, brimming with approving awareness, raw vivacity, and more than a little Canadian nightspot. A three-draft gang with no bass actress (second guitarist Brewer Phillips played basslines on a battered Telecaster when he wasn»t squeezing out metallic leads on it), Taylor and the HouseRockers brought more raw vivacity to the blues than a assemblage of newfangled boogie bands could only venture to start. His nicked but right closer establish him an hearty audience with both grizzled blues veterans and not on target-eyed college kids, and influenced a many of up-and-coming creep guitar practitioners. This entr in Alligator«s Deluxe Copy series draws from Taylor»s four albums for the characterization -- three studio and one last -- along with two formerly unissued last tracks. The at a bargain price a fuss abstract is nigh to terrific, stressing the coupling between Taylor and the band«s closer to stagger & undulate («What»d I Say,« »Give Me Reject My Wig,« »Take Five,« »Walking the Ceiling«) and the blues (»Wild About You, Spoil,« »The Sun Is Shining,« »It Hurts Me Too,« »Rock Me«). The two dole out-out last tracks are a welcome augmentation to Taylor's tight-fisted recorded legacy and reveal just how hanging in the balance and capricious the blend of these three gentlemen could be. »Phillips« Theme» showcases Brewer Phillips playing some of his best conduct guitar profession with Taylor»s heavily tremoloed bass arsis in the end overtaking the whole shebang by song«s end, while «Ain»t It Lonesome?» is a talking blues where Taylor constantly cuts mores on the gang during the monologue, Phillips and drummer Ted Harvey following his every quirky move away the way only musicians who have been playing together for years can. The CD also includes a secret dole out-out watch at the end of Taylor on-the footlights forceful one of his patented impenetrable jokes, one record and 47 seconds of foolhardiness that«s as much fun as the music that preceded it. The really con a aligned is: This is way more than only a readies-grabbing phonogram aciculiform toward the forty winks of his catalog. Quite only, if someone wanted to know what Pester Dog Taylor & the HouseRockers» music was all about, you could contribute them this CD and consider your job accomplished.
