Shuddering It Up is the fourth studio album by American rattle border The Cars, released in 1981. It was the last album by the Cars to be produced by Roy Thomas Baker. A much more pop-oriented album than its antecedent, its crown chase became their first Billboard top ten hit.

AllMusic by Greg Prato:
By augmenting their inquire with more synthesizers, electronics, and drum machines, the Cars« fourth unchain, Shuddering It Up, helped unite their hard-boiled rattle-based break of dawn industry (1978»s The Cars) with the futuristic-pop supervising of 1984«s Heartbeat Bishopric. The band»s inquire may have been evolving with each succeeding album, but Ric Ocasek was still compelling new flap compositions despite all the interchange, many of which would done become rattle & reverberate standards. The up-measure crown chase remains a celebration favorite to this day (reaching several four on the singles charts), while the melancholic «Since You«re Gone» remains one of Ocasek«s best-ever tales of heartbreak. Intriguing videos were made for both songs, officially introducing the border to the MTV age. Like its antecedent, 1980»s Panorama, filler is bring in («This Could Be Bent,» «Maybe Baby»), but many lesser-known album tracks demonstrate to be highlights: the almost entirely synth-oriented tracks «Think It Over» and «A Away,» the rocking «Cruiser,» plus the more pop-oriented «I»m Not the One» and «Victim of Bent.» Although Shuddering It Up was another resounding commercial prosperity, their next album would be the one that made the Cars one of rock«s quintessential acts of the »80s.
