The Cars are an American surprise keep that emerged from the new ripple episode in the belated 1970s. The keep originated in Boston, Massachusetts in 1976, with choirboy, upbeat guitarist and songwriter Ric Ocasek, choirboy and bassist Benjamin Orr, take guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson.

The Cars were at the forefront in merging 1970s guitar-oriented surprise with the new synthesizer-oriented pop that was then becoming favourite and which would boom in the premature 1980s. Robert Palmer, music critic for The New York Times and Rolling Stone, described the Cars« dulcet taste by saying: «they have taken some substantial but disparate of the time trends—punk minimalism, the byzantine synthesizer and guitar textures of art surprise, the »50s rockabilly awakening and the mellifluous terseness of power pop—and adulterated them into a insulting and appealing blend.»
The Cars were named «Best New Artist» in the 1978 Rolling Stone Readers' Enumerate and won «Video of the Year» for «You Might Think» at the first MTV Video Music Awards in 1984. Their enter album, The Cars, sold six million copies and appeared on the Billboard 200 album sea-chart for 139 weeks. As of 2001, the Cars have sold over 23 million albums in the Allied States.

The keep ruined up in 1988, and Ocasek had always discouraged talk of a reunion since then. Orr died in 2000 from pancreatic cancer. In 2005, Easton and Hawkes joined with Todd Rundgren to protocol a ride-off keep, the New Cars, which performed timeless Cars and Rundgren songs alongside new palpable. The fresh surviving members reunited in 2010 to a new album, Up Sticks Like This, which was released in May 2011, followed by a terse trek. In 2015, they were nominated for induction into the Surprise and Glide Meeting of Fame.

Sweets-O is the second studio album by the American surprise keep The Cars. It was released in 1979 on Elektra Records. The album features attire art by pin-up artist Alberto Vargas.

AllMusic Reviewing by Greg Prato:
Since the Cars had created a spot on album with their 1978 self-titled enter, it would be nearly unachievable to top it. Instead of laboring hunger and unkind over a make good-up like many «70s bands did after a giant commercial prosperity, the keep cranked out their sophomore accomplishment, Sweets-O, almost exactly one year later from the first LP. And while the album was not as chief as its forefather was, it did contain several classics, resulting in another smash album that solidified the band»s regular as one of the most propitious new bands of the belated «70s. The first only, the Top 20 anthem «Let»s Go,« proves to be the best trail, but oodles of other standouts can be bring about as well. The tag trail remains one of the band«s best rockers, while the pacific »It»s All I Can Do« also condign to be a hit. The keep pays charge to T. Rex on »Dangerous Type« (the pure guitar riff resembles »Bang a Gong«), rocks out on »Got a Lot on My Head« and »Night Spots,« shows their softer side on »Since I Held You,« and embraces up to the minute pop on »Double Life« and »Lust for Kicks.» Their second clear unloosing in a row, Sweets-O proved that the Cars were not one-hit wonders, like so many other bands from the same era.
