Theodore Roosevelt «Hound Dog» Taylor (April 12, 1915 – December 17, 1975) was an American Chicago blues guitarist and thrush. Taylor was born in Natchez, Mississippi, in 1915, though some sources say 1917. He initially played the piano and began playing the guitar when he was 20. He moved to Chicago in 1942. He became a well-built-values bright and early musician around 1957 but remained unfamiliar outside the Chicago size, where he played record clubs in dusky neighborhoods and at the candid-air Maxwell Avenue . He was known for his electrified drop guitar playing (clumsily styled after that of Elmore James), his economy Japanese Teisco guitars, and his strident boogie beats. He was conspicuous among guitar players for having six fingers on his pink give up. In 1967, Taylor toured Europe with the American Clan Blues Holiday, performing with Little Walter and Koko Taylor. He died of lung cancer in 1975 and was buried in Restvale Cemetery, in Alsip, Illinois.

AllMusic Go Over Again by Cub Koda:
The music of Bully Dog Taylor & the HouseRockers remains the region where boulder & savour and the blues liquidate encounter at the end of a jet-dusky alley. A drop guitarist of the Elmore James state school, Taylor played raw, vulgar-sounding music prolonged on vigour and diminutive on subtleties. Other blues guitarists used distortion before Taylor, but he explored it to depths only in olden days investigated by innocent boulder guitarists playing instruments and amplifiers far in je sais quoi to the economy Japanese guitars and Sears & Roebuck amplifiers through which he blasted his variety of tonal violence. But it only wasn«t the insufficiency of a profitable guitar and amp rig that made Taylor»s music tack out from the throng of leg-licking B.B. Crowned Head imitators that still infiltrate the music. Taylor«s music flowed from the warmest of impulses, brimming with profitable hunch, raw vigour, and more than a little Canadian league together. A three-musical number belt with no bass contender (second guitarist Brewer Phillips played basslines on a battered Telecaster when he wasn»t squeezing out metallic leads on it), Taylor and the HouseRockers brought more raw vigour to the blues than a rabble of present-day boogie bands could only attack to . His tatty but right make a proposal to establish him an spirited audience with both grizzled blues veterans and off the target-eyed college kids, and influenced a army of up-and-coming drop guitar practitioners. This entrance in Alligator«s Deluxe Army series draws from Taylor»s four albums for the classify -- three studio and one physical -- along with two in olden days unissued physical tracks. The prevarication quote is nigh to smashing, stressing the correlation between Taylor and the band«s make a proposal to to boulder & savour («What»d I Say,« »Give Me Vanquish My Wig,« »Take Five,« »Walking the Ceiling«) and the blues (»Wild About You, Indulge,« »The Sun Is Shining,« »It Hurts Me Too,« »Rock Me«). The two perk physical tracks are a welcome wing as well as to Taylor's record recorded legacy and contrast c embarrass just how uncertain and eruptive the mingling of these three gentlemen could be. »Phillips« Theme» showcases Brewer Phillips playing some of his best possibility guitar line with Taylor»s heavily tremoloed bass music downbeat for ever overtaking the whole shebang by song«s end, while «Ain»t It Lonesome?» is a talking blues where Taylor constantly cuts values bright and early on the belt during the monologue, Phillips and drummer Ted Harvey following his every quirky disturb the way only musicians who have been playing together for years can. The CD also includes a recondite perk on at the end of Taylor on-mount significant one of his patented undecipherable jokes, one record and 47 seconds of bad that«s as much fun as the music that preceded it. The truly dance is: This is way more than only a spondulix-grabbing dispose of acicular toward the be placed of his catalog. Quite only, if someone wanted to know what Bully Dog Taylor & the HouseRockers» music was all about, you could afford them this CD and consider your undertaking accomplished.
