Christian McBride (born May 31, 1972, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American jazz bassist. His creator, Lee Smith, and his keen uncle, Howard Cooper, are well known Philadelphia bassists who served as McBride's beforehand mentors. In the jazz community, McBride is a keen extent considered to be one of the best bassists of his generation.

McBride has performed and recorded with a stupendous digit of jazz legends and ensembles, including Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Diana Krall, Roy Haynes, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, and Ray Brown's «Superbass» with John Clayton, as well as with hip-hop, pop, sincerity, and greek musicians like The Roots, Kathleen Encounter, Carly Simon, Fleece, Bruce Hornsby, and James Brown.

Since 2000, McBride has fronted his own acoustic, jazz, fusion and funk group, «The Christian McBride Platoon.» As litt Alan Leeds has stated, it is «one of the most exhilarating, least on the cards bands on the milieu today.» McBride also plays on elicit under the moniker «A Christian McBride Predicament,» McBride's «blanket duration for a fury display of sympathetic players» according to litt Nate Chinen.

McBride first and foremost plays upstanding bass, but is equally dextrous on the electrifying bass. During his residency with Fleece (2001-2003), he also played bass for the collaborative propose, «The Philadelphia Inquiry.» The Philadelphia Inquiry included keyboardist Uri Caine and hip-hop drummer Ahmir «Questlove» Thompson. Brand-New projects have included tours and recordings with the Pat Metheny Trine, the Bruce Hornsby Trine, and Sovereign Latifah. His End at Restorative three-CD set was released in 2006.

In 2006, McBride was named to the placing of «Creative Rocking-Chair for Jazz» with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, delightful over from Dianne Reeves. He was initially signed to a two-year crease that was afterward renewed for an additional two years. He was in the course of occasion suceeded by Herbie Hancock in 2010.

McBride performed with Sonny Rollins and Roy Haynes at Carnegie Meeting on September 18, 2007, in commemoration of Rollins' 50th anniversary of his first display there.

He is also co-commander of the new Civil Jazz Museum in Harlem.

McBride is currently touring in a «straight-ahead» quintet called «Christian McBride & Confidential Straight» featuring alto/soprano saxophonist Steve Wilson, vibraphonist Warren Wolf, pianist Peter Martin (jazz pianist) and drummer Carl Allen, as well as performing as «A Christian McBride Situation» with saxophonist Ron Blake, guitarist David Gilmore & turntablist DJ Logic.

In 2008, McBride joined John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Kenny Garrett and Vinnie Colaiuta in a jazz fusion supergroup called the Five Harmony Platoon. They released a CD in February 2009 and completed their overjoyed voyage in May of that year, as Brian Bayonet took over for Vinnie Colaiuta as drummer in Asia and some US concerts.

McBride had already made his name as an astounding bass sideman when he recorded his first album as a concert-master, which nailed him as another in the great wire of mainstream-minded Na Lions. McBride would cast off that tag within a few years when he brought forth his other interests, but for now he headed a series of three- to six-holding bands compromised mostly of somewhat older Na Lions similarly unavailable to ritual. They«re in attractive benefit stamp, too -- the flavorous Cyrus Chestnut on piano, the growing trumpeter Roy Hargrove, big-toned tenorman Joshua Redman -- and the more masterly trombonist Steve Turre and drummer Lewis Nash utter the personnel. McBride»s big, sway-packed air and melodic agility slack his playing the properties of a horn -- at 22, he was a perfect principal -- yet his ideas as a concert-master were not yet as creative as his bass playing. One quibble -- and without a hitch the most enjoyable and lyrical seek out on the CD -- is the delivery on itemize of McBride«s bass trine with mentor Ray Brown and warhorse Milt Hinton in «Splanky»; you»d never judge that three unattended bassists could filch such sublimely enjoyable music. Another is the possession seek out, whose funky strain and pulse are audibly inspired by James Brown. Mostly, though, this is a auspicious but watchful debut.
