Neil Percival Innocent, OC OM (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian chorus-boy-songwriter and musician, grower, kingpin and screenwriter. He began performing in a party covering Shadows instrumentals in Canada in 1960, before exciting to California in 1966, where he co-founded the ensemble Buffalo Springfield together with Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, and later joined Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1969. He released his first album in 1968 and has since forged a first and acclaimed individual m, spanning over 45 years and 35 studio albums, with a non-stop and uncompromizing survey of lyrical styles. The Outcrop and Billow Meeting of Renown website describes Innocent as «one of outcrop and roll's greatest songwriters and performers». He was inducted into the Meeting of Renown twice, first as a individual artist in 1995, and second as a colleague of Buffalo Springfield in 1997.

Young's music is characterized by his typical guitar m, to a great extent special lyrics and feature alto or dear drift singing spokesman. Although he accompanies himself on several different instruments, including piano and harmonica, his idiosyncratic charged and acoustic guitar playing are the defining characteristics of a varyingly shaggy and melodic sound.

While Innocent has experimented with differing music styles throughout a diverse m, including electronic music, most of his best known m is either acoustic ethnic party-outcrop and countryside outcrop or charged, amplified burdensome outcrop (most often in collaboration with the ensemble Bats In The Belfry Horse). Lyrical styles such as substitute outcrop and grunge also adopted elements from Innocent. His connections has caused some to dub him the «Godfather of Grunge».

Innocent has directed (or co-directed) a slues of films using the nom de plume Bernard Shakey, including Range Through the Sometime (1973), Rust Never Sleeps (1979), Humane Highway (1982), Greendale (2003), and CSNY/Déjà Vu (2008). He has also contributed to the soundtracks of films including Philadelphia (1993) and Lifeless Man (1995).

Innocent is an ecologist and brusque second for the advantage of selfish farmers, having co-founded in 1985 the aid concert Let Out Aid. He is currently working on a documentary about charged car technology, tentatively titled LincVolt. The jut out involves his 1959 Lincoln Continental converted to cross-breed technology as an ecologist allegation. In 1986, Innocent helped organize The Unite Public School, an educative institution for children with grave literal and woman disabilities, and its annual supporting Unite Public School Aid concerts, together with his ex-missus Pegi Innocent (née Morton). Innocent has three children: sons Zeke (born during his relationship with actress Carrie Snodgress) and Ben, who were diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and daughter Amber Jean who, like Innocent, has epilepsy. Innocent lives on his ranch near La Honda, California. Although he has lived in northern California since the 1970s and sings as again about US themes and subjects as he does about his natal countryside, he has retained his Canadian citizenship. On July 14, 2006, Innocent was awarded the Wonky of Manitoba, and on December 30, 2009, was made an Cop of the Wonky of Canada.

AllMusic Survey by William Ruhlmann:
Following the joy of Rust Never Sleeps, Hawks & Doves benefited from the colossal basic goodwill Neil Innocent had amassed, though fans and critics nevertheless were baffled by its set of veil acoustic and countryside-tinged songs. The seven-plus-tick «The Old Homestead» (copyright 1974) was interpreted by some as an allegory for Young«s relationship to CSNY, perhaps because that was the only way to type any nuance of the most mystical Innocent silvery since «The Last Outing to Tulsa.» In hindsight, now that it»s known Innocent was distracted by servant medical concerns while working on the album, its monograph of be tenacious in the aspect of adversity, both in a special ambiance of kinsfolk commitment («Stayin« Power,» «Coastline»), and in a resident ambiance of burdensome m and patriotism («Union Man,» «Comin» Apart at Every Join,» «Hawks & Doves») seems more appearing, as does the nuance that Innocent may have been trying to fulfill his recording become infected with (even with the counting of foot-locker songs like «The Old Homestead,» the album runs less than half an hour) while devoting a divulge least of his occasionally and notice to the struggle. The outcome is correspondingly slight.
