Neil Percival Unfledged, OC OM (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian choirboy-songwriter and musician, in, top banana and screenwriter. He began performing in a alliance covering Shadows instrumentals in Canada in 1960, before striking to California in 1966, where he co-founded the bind Buffalo Springfield together with Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, and later joined Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1969. He released his first album in 1968 and has since forged a triumphant and acclaimed unaccompanied employment, spanning over 45 years and 35 studio albums, with a ceaseless and uncompromizing expedition of euphonious styles. The Finished and Wad Amphitheatre of Eminence website describes Unfledged as «one of finished and roll's greatest songwriters and performers». He was inducted into the Amphitheatre of Eminence twice, first as a unaccompanied artist in 1995, and second as a associate of Buffalo Springfield in 1997.

Young's music is characterized by his distinct guitar business, emotionally exclusive lyrics and mark alto or high-pitched tone singing instrument. Although he accompanies himself on several different instruments, including piano and harmonica, his idiosyncratic stirring and acoustic guitar playing are the defining characteristics of a varyingly spent and melodic sound.

While Unfledged has experimented with differing music styles throughout a diversified employment, including electronic music, most of his best known business is either acoustic people-finished and mountains finished or stirring, amplified badly finished (most often in collaboration with the bind Keen Horse). Euphonious styles such as substitute finished and grunge also adopted elements from Unfledged. His move has caused some to dub him the «Godfather of Grunge».

Unfledged has directed (or co-directed) a million of films using the alias Bernard Shakey, including Outing Through the Existence (1973), Rust Never Sleeps (1979), Android Highway (1982), Greendale (2003), and CSNY/Déjà Vu (2008). Unfledged is an naturalist and unequivocal stand behind for the good of grudging farmers, having co-founded in 1985 the gain concert Till The Soil Contract Aid. He is currently working on a documentary about stirring car technology, tentatively titled LincVolt. The layout involves his 1959 Lincoln Continental converted to combination technology as an naturalist announcement. In 1986, Unfledged helped inaugurate The Link Set, an instructive coalition for children with tyrannical said and diplomate disabilities, and its annual supporting Link Set Gain concerts, together with his ex-old lady Pegi Unfledged (née Morton). Unfledged has three children: sons Zeke (born during his relationship with actress Carrie Snodgress) and Ben, who were diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and daughter Amber Jean who, like Unfledged, has epilepsy. Unfledged lives on his ranch near La Honda, California. Although he has lived in northern California since the 1970s and sings as repeatedly about US themes and subjects as he does about his exclusive mountains, he has retained his Canadian citizenship. On July 14, 2006, Unfledged was awarded the Sisterhood of Manitoba, and on December 30, 2009, was made an Public Official of the Sisterhood of Canada.

American Stars «n Bars is the eighth studio album by Canadian musician Neil Unfledged, released on Reprise Records in 1977. It peaked at #21 on the Billboard 200, and has been certified a gold by the RIAA.

AllMusic Consider by William Ruhlmann:
Neil Unfledged made a meat of listing the recording dates of the songs on American Stars ‘n Bars; the dates even appeared on the LP labels. They revealed that the songs had been cut at four different sessions dating abet to 1974. But even without such documentation, it would have been tranquil to tell that the album was a stylistic hodgepodge, its first side consisting of mountains-tinged facts featuring protect guitar and fiddle, plus backup vocals from Linda Ronstadt and the then-unexplored Nicolette Larson, while the four songs on the second side diversified from acoustic unaccompanied numbers like “Will to Love” to raging rockers such as “Like a Typhoon.” Just as discernible was the album’s unevenness: side one consisted of lightweight compositions, while side two had more eager ones, with “Will to Dearest,” for example, extending the chimerical parabole of a salmon swimming upstream across seven minutes. The album’s compensating suavity was “Like a Typhoon,” one of Young’s archetypal badly finished songs and guitar workouts, and a chronic concert favorite.
