We Came As Romans — We Came As Romans (2015) [Gorgatz]

— I N F O —

Rolling into its sociable self-titled fourth album, We Came As Romans figured they knew what they were doing -- especially after 2013's Tracing With Little Roots debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Loner Albums map. But We Came As Romans manufacturer David Bendeth (Papa Roach, Breaking Benjamin, Killswitch Encounter, Paramore) provided a unskilled awakening.

You can understand some of the results of his efforts on the path «Tear It Down» below.

We Came As Romans Covers The Wanted«s »Glad You Came': Video Premiere

«We went in and he said, «OK, misbehave your best songs,» and we did and he was like, «This is frightening! This sucks!»» recalls WCAR frontman Dave Stephens. «He said, «You better misbehave something right now that»s gonna move me, «cause this isn»t.« At that full stop we had 12 songs and he catchy much never boost down every lone fad we came in with. It was genuinely repulsive. He really called us out; »This is your fourth annals. You«re doing the same shit you»ve been doing every other annals. You can«t get away with it.» That«s why we went with him, though; we really needed somebody to wrench us to domineer ourselves creatively as musicians. David wouldn»t let us put anything less than excellent songs on there.»

After the first Bendeth meet WCAR went with little to the depiction take meals, working at native in Detroit as well as in New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles and Nashville -- and book with collaborators who have yesterday worked with 30 Seconds To Mars, Hateful Shroud Brides, Papa Roach, 3 Doors Down and Asking Alexandria. The team came with little with another 23 songs, winnowing that file down to the 10 that appear on the album. «It took a lotta lotta book,» Stephens recalls, «and it was a vast donnybrook to commit oneself to which ones were going to show up it. Each colleague was in dearest with different songs for different reasons, and I texture like everybody irremediable one of his favorite songs along the way. I knew I irremediable a team a few. If they weren«t the best songs, they weren»t gonna show up it.»

Even then, Stephens adds, there were abundance of machinations to show up the chosen songs right — Stephens mentions another new ditty from the album, “Who Will Pray”, one of the tracks written in Los Angeles. It was one of the few that was relatively uninjured from start to stop. «That didn«t trade lot,» Stephens says, though he adds that it was the most scabrous ditty for me to intone. I probably sang that ditty 200 times until it was right. It«s a catchy earnest song; We like to keep our idiosyncratic navigable-ended, but it»s about that regard of when you«ve irremediable something in your sustenance you can texture very separated and very nonplussed. There»s this regard sometimes of, «Where am I gonna go from here? Who»s gonna be there for me?« When we capitulate what we rationality was the illuminate of our lives, it»s relaxing to drive and capitulate yourself. It makes it even more scabrous to know you can never go with little. The «who will request for me» isn«t meant to be strict but rather wondering, »Who cares about me?» After all, you only request for those you be keen on about."

Stephens adds that WCAR«s lyrical concerns overall ran deeper and well beyond aggro angst throughout the new album. «We»re ample-grown men at this full stop, compared to our first annals,« he explains. »We definitely see the exceptional in a different illuminate than we used to. As we get older, we return there«s a lot of things going on in the exceptional, going on in America, that we don»t like. We used to think we had to put in black undeniably about change; on this annals we realized that to full stop out something opposing negatively or that we don«t like or makes you enraged doesn»t mean unqualified trade can«t happen.» And, he adds, under Bendeth»s management, «We stopped book novels and instead put all our thoughts that would be on an unexceptional used of an adult bellboy of legal papers before into one string. That was exceptionally knotty, but I think it came across really well.»

WCAR is playing this summer«s unexceptional Vans Warped Enlistment and expects a extensive enlistment in succour of We Came As Romans. And Stephens, who»s singing more unadulterated vocals than ever before, is benefiting from training with a British disclose mentor who put him through some new paces, including an adjusted, low-acid diet.

Fashionable Premiere: Brothers Born«s »Knife Wounds'

«I«m a really visual tyro, and she was able to legitimate things in such a visual way to grant me how I»m reputed to be singing,» he says. «She made me do things like get on my knees and intone with my unexceptional with little and aunt sally and feet against the go under and grant me all kinds of curious things to grant me how to intone well -- not to insinuate practicing two to three hours a day. But it worked; my wander improved, my note improved. My bandmates like to trip by and synthetic the grotesque noises I«m making when I»m warming up, but that«s just character of improving my what-d»you-call-it, and the results are speaking for themselves.»
