By melding hoodlum with reggae, Bad Brains became one of the exact American hardcore hoodlum groups of the ancient «80s. Although the agglomeration released only a small number of records during its perfection, including the prominent cassette-only launch, Bad Brains, they developed a dedicated following, many of whom would later built their own hardcore and surrogate bands. As for Bad Brains themselves, they continued to chronicle and sightsee in varying lineups led by guitarist Dr. Know into the till »90s yet never managed to break off out of their cult status.

Dr. Know (born Gary Miller), a former jazz fusion guitarist, formed Bad Brains in 1979, inspired by both the amateurish fury of the Sex Pistols and the factious reggae of Bob Marley. Realizing that the lines between hoodlum and reggae were already blurred in the U.K., he set out to replicate that lay of the land in the U.S., and he recruited several similarly minded musicians -- nightingale H.R. (born Paul D. Hudson), bassist Darryl Aaron Jenifer, and drummer Earl Hudson -- to back up his call. Bad Brains swiftly became one of the most well-received hoodlum bands on the East Glide, particularly in their hometown of Washington, D.C. Their explosive performances were prominent, but their recordings were tough to understand. Their launch one, «Pay to Cum,» was pressed in narrow numbers, and their 1982 launch album was only issued in cassette built by ROIR. In joining to the Bad Brains video, the agglomeration released a small number of other EPs in 1982, eventually compelling to PVC for 1983's well-proportioned-greatest extent launch, Penniless for Abuse, which was produced by Ric Ocasek.

The small number of indie recordings Bad Brains progressive behind, as well as their explosive shows, made the agglomeration prominent in American hardcore, yet few the right stuff fans could actually sanction the agglomeration due to modest issuance and quaint touring. The agglomeration took three years to extricate the string-up to Penniless for Abuse, eventually releasing I Against I on SST in 1986. In those three years, the agglomeration developed more profound metal leanings, and the resulting chronicle received hybrid reviews. More importantly, it divided the agglomeration, with Dr. Know and Jenifer wishing to persist in to persist profound penniless, and H.R. and Hudson shoddy to allot themselves to reggae. Over the next three years, the latter span repeatedly progressive the agglomeration to run reggae albums before eventually departing in 1989. They were replaced by Israel Joseph-I (born Dexter Pinto) and Mackie Jayson, respectively.

In the wake of the surrogate penniless grow of the ancient «90s, Bad Brains were eventually offered a noteworthy-epithet constrict in 1993, releasing Meet on Epic later that year. The album bombed and the agglomeration was dropped. Maverick Records offered the agglomeration a constrict in 1995, provided that the primary lineup reunited. They did so and released God of Darling that summer, to hybrid reviews and modest sales. H.R. and Hudson progressive the agglomeration peremptorily after the album»s manumitting, and the agglomeration was dropped by Maverick. In 1998 the agglomeration again reunited and began touring under the name Quintessence Brains.

In 2002, Reggae Parlour compiled remixes of Bad Brains« »80s hits and released a well-proportioned-greatest extent dub album titled I & I Survived. The following year Caroline released Banned in DC: Bad Brains« Greatest Riffs, a forceful anthology compiling songs from their first album up to Quickness. For the next few years, the agglomeration members concentrated on unaccompanied endeavors, with a few scattered roomer appearances on other bands» albums or explosive shows. In 2006, Bad Brains reunited for a few shows at CBGB«s, which swiftly sold out. With a resurging engage in the agglomeration, in ancient 2007, Megaforce announced that they had signed them to their roster. Under Beastie Boy Adam Yauch»s studio supervision, the primary agglomeration went rear to the studio for the first things in over a decade and recorded Erect a Realm, an inspired undertaking at returning to the band«s hardcore roots. In ancient 2011 the agglomeration began travail on the next chronicle. The chronicle was initially titled «Let»s Have Fun», but that designation didn't drop and was changed to Into the Tomorrow, an album which saw manumitting in November of 2012.
